A partial-budgeting tool to describe the effect of lactation space and lactation-space management on net revenue in a multi-site production system

چکیده
Partial budget analysis is an effective production tool to evaluate economic implications of proposed changes to pig production systems. We describe a partial-budgeting tool that estimates the effects of lactation space and lactation-space management on net revenue in a multi-site production system. A partial-budgeting worksheet is linked to an economic model that couples production-system-specific input and prospectively derived research data. A 2600sow multi-site production system is modeled to illustrate the interactions between lactation-space management, weaning age, and whole-system net revenue. The results of these modeling efforts suggest that inadequate lactation space and poor utilization of lactation space substantially restrict net revenue in multi-site pig production. However, decreasing the number of sows scheduled to farrow each week for the purpose of increasing weaning age may not improve profitability. Quantifying the effects of lactation length on weaned-pig value and subsequent reproductive performance enables a clear understanding of the effects of lactation space and lactation-space management on whole-system net revenue.

Comparison of Different Lactation Curve Models to Describe Lactation Curve in Moroccan Holstein-Friesian Dairy Cows
In this study, the incomplete gamma function, an exponential function, a mixed-log function and a polynomial function were evaluated to describe the lactation curve in Moroccan Holstein-Friesian dairy cows. Data from 1990 to 1999, comprising 77130 monthly milk yields of 6029 dairy cows in 280 dairy herds, were used. Edits were carried out by considering the lactation length (5 d and

The study aimed to determine factors affecting the dry period length and effect of dry days on milk yield, milk composition and lactation length in the next lactation of dairy cows. Data used for analysis included 7264 lactation records collected from 2012 to 2016 on 4737 Holstein cows raised in 152 herds. The statistical model used to determine the factors influencing the dry period length sho...

متن کاملEvaluation of Heifer Management Criteria for Improved Lactation and Reduced Dystocia: A Systematic Analysis of Body Weight, Average Daily Gain, and Age
Decisive heifer management for improved lactation and reduced dystocia requires a systematic analysis of age, body weight (BW), and average daily gain (ADG) using an adequately large sample size. The objective of this study was to determine effects of BW and age at first breeding and ADG until pregnancy on yields of milk, milk fat, and milk protein in the first lactation and the occurrence of d...

This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between early lactation curve parameters andcalving interval in Holstein cows of Iran. In order to describe the lactation curve, the incomplete gammafunction was fitted to 5,754,428 test-day milk records corresponding to 766,108 lactations on 315,634 cowsin 2,448 herds. Cows with higher milk yield during early lactation had shorter calv...
